Why press flowers / what is a flower press?
Pressing flowers and leaves is a practice that dates back to ancient times! It’s the most simple and effective way of preserving botanical specimens and can be used for scientific or aesthetic purposes such as:
- Learn about and identify plants;
- Create an herbarium: your very own “library“ of plants that can be used for study;
- Make beautiful pictures to frame, using one of the vase pictures you will have access to download;
- Make special greetings cards for your friends and family!
- Decorate books, bookmarks, picture frames …, basically anything you can think of :)
- Learn about how different seasons change our environment.
With care, pressed plants can last for a very long time - even hundreds of years! The Natural History Museum has a collection that dates back to the early 1700s and includes plants from over 70 countries! You can learn more
